What is "Fresh Food for Kids"?
Like so many in Guelph-Wellington, the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is concerned about how best to support the most vulnerable in our community during this unprecedented time of shut-downs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are especially concerned about the children and youth who rely on food support through our Food & Friends student nutrition program, and we've been working hard to find creative ways to provide for their needs.
To respond to this emergency, the Children’s Foundation in partnership with other local organizations, has created a temporary emergency support initiative called Fresh Food for Kids which will provide nutritious food to local children and youth in need in Dufferin, Wellington and Guelph.
How does it work?
While children and youth are schooling from home, and are not able to access their usual student nutrition program, we will continue bringing healthy food to hungry minds.
We are partnering with local organizations to provide families, children and youth with nutritious food. Deliveries are going out to families across Wellington, Guelph each week and now in Dufferin, bi-weekly until August 21, 2020.
We have also partnered with Lakeside HOPE House and now The SEED in Guelph and Central Pentecostal Church in Elora. New in July through Dufferin Food Share, led by the Orangeville Food Bank we will help reach more students in need. These locations will be used as food packing sites for our volunteers, with the food provided at a discounted rate thanks to many local grocery stores who will be supporting Fresh Food for Kids. These kits are being delivered directly to families homes by volunteers in a safe and contactless manner.

The health and safety of our staff, volunteers, and the community is our number one priority and we are taking extra precautions when packaging and delivering all Fresh Food for Kids supplies using recommended safety protocols.
Fresh Food for Kids would not be possible without the amazing support of our partners:
