KarynHeadshotThe Children’s Foundation is excited to announce that Karyn Kirkwood has been appointed as Senior Director of Development. In this new role, Karyn will help lead programming and fund development as we continue to grow and support more children and youth.

“The Children’s Foundation has seen a lot of growth over the past several years, especially as we’ve responded to the increased needs of youth and families throughout the pandemic,” says Emma Rogers, CEO. “We want to build on our strengths and grow into the future, not only to help more children and youth but to support them in innovative and in-depth ways. This new position will play a crucial role in leading our growth and collaborative efforts in the community, as well as turning our strategic vision into effective delivery. Karyn has demonstrated her leadership at the foundation and in the community, with creative and forward-thinking program development, as well as with fund development and heartfelt donor stewardship. I am looking forward to working alongside Karyn and seeing all of the incredible impact that will come from this role.”

Karyn has been with the Children’s Foundation for over seven years as the Program Director for the Adopt-A-Family and Free to Grow Program; as well as serving as the Interim Executive Director in 2019. Throughout her tenure with the foundation, Karyn has stewarded program development and been responsible for significant growth in both programs. In 2020-2021, she took the lead in developing adaptive programming and initiatives including the Free to Grow at Home initiative, a Bike Pilot Project, a Tutoring Pilot, and the growing Mental Health support program. In addition, Karyn has also been responsible for securing over a half-million dollars in gifts during her time with the foundation.

“The past few years of intense change in our world and at the Foundation have only strengthened my passion and commitment to serving the children and families in our community, and I’m honoured to move into the new role of Senior Director of Development,” says Kirkwood. “I share the foundation’s vision for youth to reach their full potential, as well as the goal to expand and deepen what we do to best serve kids and their families. I am a firm believer in collaboration and stewardship and look forward to opportunities to work with partners, funders, and donors to ensure that every child and youth have the opportunities they deserve to build their skills and capacities for a bright future.”

The Foundation will be posting for a replacement for the Program Director role, and Karyn will continue to oversee the Adopt-A-Family and Free to Grow programs during the transition this fall.

Please join us in congratulating Karyn in this next chapter at the Foundation!
