Children's Foundation Visionary
Jennark Homes and Williams & McDaniel Property Management are increasing their annual support to the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington Food & Friends Program to ensure students have the nutrition they need to learn.
For the fourth school year, Jennark and Williams & McDaniel are fully funding Food & Friends programs at James McQueen and Victoria Terrace Public Schools in Fergus.
Thanks to the continued support of these companies, James McQueen is now able to offer their snack program an extra day of the week which includes a popular yogurt bar. Victoria Terrace offers a breakfast and lunch program to 15-25 students daily, along with a school-wide snack program. With a rise in students accessing the programs, along with an increased cost of fresh and healthy food, the funding required to keep these programs operating has increased significantly over last year.
Tara Armstrong, Program Coordinator at Victoria Terrace, says that it’s a relief to not have to worry that funding won't last all school year, as has happened in the past. “Even with the cost of food increases, I am still able to afford fresh fruit and vegetables thanks to this support. And children are able to try different healthy foods that they have never had before.”
Jennark and Williams & McDaniel are donating a total of $17,100 this year alone to cover program costs. This brings their total support to over $50,000 in four years.
“Donations such as these are a blessing,” says Glenna Banda, Executive Director of the Children’s Foundation. “It offers our Food & Friends Program Coordinators the opportunity to focus on what is most important; ensuring that fresh, healthy food is available in a way where there is no stigma attached, so all children have the nourishment they need to thrive at school.”
“Jennark Homes and Williams & McDaniel are pleased to support the Children’s Foundation Food & Friends Program in our community. Children are our future, and healthy nutrition choices will help them get the best out of their early education!” – Taylor McDaniel
