“Trees for Tots” Christmas Tree Pick-up in support of Grants program
With the City of Guelph ending their Christmas Tree pick-up program, the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington saw an opportunity to help kids in Guelph by organizing a "Trees for Tots” campaign on January 12th, 2013.
Working off a suggestion from Downtown Guelph Business Association Executive Director Marty Williams, the Children’s Foundation and its volunteers will pick up and dispose of Christmas Trees for a minimum donation of $5 throughout the day on Saturday, January 12th. Trees will be picked up from the curb and taken to be chipped by Terry’s Tree Removal, who has generously offered their services free of charge.
All proceeds will go to support the Grants program, which provides financial assistance for children in need so that they can participate in sports, cultural and recreational activities. Funds are available for the activity of the child’s choice as long as the activity will benefit and enrich their own personal development.
"More children are getting the chance to play sports, go to camp and take music through our Grants Program each year. Unfortunately, the percentage of families in Guelph that are living in poverty shows us that the program is needed and we shouldn’t anticipate a decrease in demand for funding. We are always looking for new fundraising opportunities and this was an obvious fit. We are inviting families to enjoy their Christmas and then pay it forward. Their $5 donation will help provide other families positive experiences. In return, we will take their tree off their hands.” – Glenna Banda, Executive Director, The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington
