Mar.2, 2009 Thousands in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin Sacrifice for Food and Friends
Friday, March 6th is Live Free Day in
The Live Free Campaign has challenged these individuals to give up a daily treat on Friday and instead donate the money they would normally spend on themselves to the Food and Friends program. People have chosen to give up treats like chocolate and coffee to activities like driving and watching television. At minimum participants were asked to make this sacrifice on March 6th but many participants have promised to Live Free for the entire week.
Every donation that is received in support of these individuals will make a difference – no matter what the size. For the cost of one morning coffee, Food and Friends can provide a nutritious lunch for a child.
Each day, children in our community are going to school too hungry to learn. By supporting the Live Free Campaign, donors can help provide meals to these children so that they can focus in their classes. It’s common to hear stories of young people who are going to school without breakfast or lunch. They either struggle through the day hungry or their teachers share their own lunches with them so that they can have the fuel they need to learn.
“Last night, I had a mustard sandwich for supper. There was no food at home. My mom cried and I told her it would be ok. I would go to the breakfast program in the morning and get an apple for my brother.”
