June 23, 2009 - Give Yourself Credit Benefits from School Enrichment Funding

Students from Give Yourself Credit in Guelph recently enjoyed a horseback riding trip to celebrate year end thanks to the Children's Foundation Grants. The Grants are provided to individuals or for school enrichment activities such as this, where the entire school benefits. Give Yourself Credit provides vulnerable youth, aged 16-21, the opportunity to obtain high school credits in a community setting. The target audience are youth, who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness, have personal circumstances that restrict them from attending high school (e.g. pregnancy, bullying, etc.), have experienced halted success in school, or the regular school system has not been successful in providing a program to meet their needs.

The horseback riding trip was a celebration of year end for the students. The youth were able to learn about horse grooming, go horseback riding and have lunch together in the lodge. Roberta Kraven, a teacher at Give Yourself Credit says that the trip helped the youth bond, get physical exercise and connect with nature. Students enjoyed "trying something new...really cool and exciting." They also loved spending time in a natural environment with beautiful scenery.

A big thank you to our donors for providing this memorable experience for youth in our community.
