June 17, 2009 - The Benefits of Summer Camp

Over the summer months, many kids in our community will be heading out to summer camp. Through the Children's Foundation Grants and the Camp Program, the Children's Foundation funds these opportunities for those kids in Guelph and Wellington County who are living in disadvantaged life situations. The benefits to our community as a whole are the many skills that these children can develop at camp.
According to an article by TVOParents, these skills include:
- health and well-being
- self-esteem
- independence
- leadership
- friendship skills
- adventure and exploration
- environmental awareness
- values and decisions
- spirituality
“When you’re a skinny 12 year old you might feel a little insignificant. That feeling disappears at camp because you’re with your peers and camp leaders who are young enough to relate to”
