Dec 1, 2009 Donors Needed: 75 Families Left to be Adopted for Christmas

Christmas is quickly approaching and the Adopt-A-Family program has 75 families waiting to be matched up with donors.

As a donor for the Adopt-A-Family program, you will have the opportunity to lift the spirits of families in need in Guelph and Wellington County. In 2008, donors provided gifts to 531 families and we have already surpassed that total this year. More than ever, we need your help in providing brighter holiday memories for these families.

Program Summary

“She loved that she got a new blanket and towels. She said she had never had brand new and always had second hand things. It is so heart warming to see a young adult be so excited about Christmas.”

Within Guelph and Wellington County, there are many families, as well as teenagers living on their own, who are unable to afford the luxury of gifts and special treats during the holiday season. The Adopt-A-Family program partners families in need with community donors [individuals, families and businesses] at holiday time.

Through the generosity of these donors, we are able to provide gifts and grocery gift cards for individual family members and independent teens. Donors receive a wish list from their "adopted" family and then purchase and deliver the unwrapped gifts to The Children's Foundation. We prepare them for delivery to the families.

Families are referred to the program by many social service agencies within Guelph and Wellington County. Single moms and dads, independent teens, two parent families, as well as children being raised by grandparents, benefit from the Adopt-A-Family program.

Please help us ensure that all of the families that are referred to our program have a brighter Holidays. To make a contribution to the Adopt-A-Family program, please contact us at 519-826-9551.
