April 16, 2010 CBC Host Andy Barrie: "Summer Camp Launched My Career"
In an essay featured in today's Globe and Mail, recently retired CBC morning host Andy Barrie tells the story of how summer camp launched his career.
As a boy Barrie did not excel at sports and at camp he got the opportunity to do the morning announcements. He says he is always amazed to hear how for most adults camp was a time when most adults did their most important growing up and "blossomed and bloomed into the adults they are today."
An important part of the Children's Foundation Grants program involves sending children in Guelph and Wellington to camp. Families that do not have funds to pay camp fees can apply for financial assistance so that all children can have access to this valuable childhood experience.
