Adopt-A-Family
"You have lifted our spirit and shared with us the true meaning of Christmas. We are sincerely grateful.”
As a donor for the Adopt-A-Family program, you will have the opportunity to lift the spirits of families in need in Guelph and Wellington County. In 2009, donors provided gifts to over 600 families, which included 1,350 children, and we anticipate the need will grow in 2010. More than ever, we will need your help in providing brighter holiday memories for these families.
Program Summary
"She loved that she got a new blanket and towels. She said she had never had brand new and always had second hand things. It is so heart warming to see a young adult be so excited about Christmas.”
Within Guelph and Wellington County, there are many families, as well as teenagers living on their own, who are unable to afford the luxury of gifts and special treats during the holiday season. The Adopt-A-Family program partners families in need with community donors [individuals, families and businesses] at holiday time.
Through the generosity of these donors, we are able to provide gifts and grocery gift cards for individual family members and independent teens. Donors receive a wish list from their "adopted" family and then purchase and deliver the unwrapped gifts to The Children's Foundation. We prepare them for delivery to the families.
Families are referred to the program by many social service agencies within Guelph and Wellington County. Single moms and dads, independent teens, two parent families, as well as children being raised by grandparents, benefit from the Adopt-A-Family program.

"Our own family has been blessed with good fortune. We gave ourselves a different gift this year, the gift of giving to others. More importantly, our personal Christmas spirits were revived this year when we were able to give to those who wished for something and really needed it.”
Our donors include individuals, families, groups of friends, churches, service clubs, workplace peer groups and corporate offices.
