With appreciation to the generosity of our 825+ donors, we were able to provide support for 880 families in 2014, which included close to 2,000 children.
The Adopt-A-Family program matches families in need with community donors at the Christmas holiday time*. Through the generosity of these donors, we are able to provide children with gifts and families with grocery gift cards. Donors receive a wish list from their "adopted" family and then purchase and deliver the unwrapped gifts to The Children's Foundation. We prepare them for delivery to the families via social service agencies.
*While Adopt-A-Family is a Christmas holiday program, it is open to people of all backgrounds and traditions.
Why do we exist?
Within Guelph and Wellington County, there are many families who are unable to afford the luxury of gifts and special treats during the holiday season.
Families are referred to the program by many social service agencies within Guelph and Wellington County. The families include single moms and dads, children being raised by grandparents, low income two-parent families, and independent-living teens.
How Adopt-A-Family Makes a Difference
- Lifts the spirits of local families at holiday time.
- Provides donors with actual wish lists from children so that each child receives gifts that are unique and special to them.
- Gives the opportunity for families to have a wonderful holiday dinner, using grocery gift cards.
- Enhances each donor’s holiday experience by giving to a family in their own community.
"You have lifted our spirit and shared with us the true meaning of Christmas. We are sincerely grateful.”
